Enhanced Iris Normalization by Phase Correlation Method and Improving Security Using Cryptographic Techniques

Information security is concerned with the assurance of confidentiality, integrity and availability of information in all forms. It provides an identification based on a unique feature or characteristic possessed by the individual. Among various techniques, Iris recognition is a rapidly expanding method of biometric technology. A wide variety of recognition schemes is used to either confirm or determine the identity of an individual requesting their services. This paper provides a walkthrough for image acquisition, segmentation, normalization, feature extraction and matching based on the Human Iris imaging. A fusion mechanism is used to segment the eye’s digital image. The extracted Iris region was then normalized by using Image registration technique. A phase correlation base method is deployed for this Iris image registration purpose. The features of the Iris region is encoded by convolving the normalized Iris region with 2D Gabor filter and phase quantizing the output in order to produce a bitwise biometric template. Hamming distance measurement is used to compare the quantized vectors and authenticate the users. To improve the security, Reed-Solomon techniques is employed directly to encrypt and decrypt the data. It obtains a higher security with a low false rejection or false acceptance rate comparing to other techniques. Experimental results show that our system is quite effective and provides encouraging performance. Index Terms -Iris recognition, Phase correlation, ReedSolomon, Hadamard
